• These changes require businesses to substantiate their environmental claims with an "internationally recognized methodology," adding ambiguity and potential legal challenges for nearly any statement about environmental impacts.
• The amendments introduce a private right of action effective June 20, 2025, allowing private parties to challenge greenwashing, with significant penalties including fines up to $10 million or three times the value derived from the conduct.
